If a child has the misfortune of being injured during the course of their training, they are often forced to continue training before they have the chance to properly heal. For instance, in the June 2007 video interview we recently published about Yang Yun, the Chinese gymnast who competed at the 2000 Olympic Games, she was forced to continue training and competing despite suffering through five metacarpal injuries in only a two year period. She never had the opportunity to heal, thus causing a great deal of compounded physical harm, intense pain, and emotional distress. Just like all the other adolescent gymnasts under China's control, they simply do not have the choice to cease their training when it starts to do serious damage to their bodies. In other words, they are indentured servants to the athletic organizations of the Chinese government.
