A Gift

Pain, drugs, addiction,
Sickness, affliction, disease.
Is this what life is?

You watch yourself die,
As the days creep so slowly;
Age begets decay.

Some people die old,
So many perish so young;
The Reaper's gamble.

The roulette of life,
You spin into nothingness,
And no one ever wins.

We fight for nothing;
Segments of fleeting time,
Years in pain, for what?

Fight, claw, grasp, and cry,
The horizon holds no hope;
Everything must end.

All creation dies,
And all things must come to dust.
Death envelopes all.

Is this what life is?
Gone before we have a chance,
To love and to live.

Be grateful, be kind,
Never forget what you have,
Don't throw it away.

You hold in your hands,
A gift many would die for:
Just one chance to live.

Your health, your family,
Your sight, your mind, your children,
Your world, and your life.

Never miss a chance,
To remember what you have:
To glory in Now.

Happiness, content,
The joy of fleeting moments.
This is what life is.
