Opportunities (Let's Spend Lots of Money)

Wanna see the absolute cutest thing on the planet? Ever? And I do seriously mean it's the cutest thing in the history of the world. What is it? My new watch! A couple weeks ago, Mike and I were in Reston Town Center, going to dinner at Panera, when I wandered into this strange little eclectic store tucked between a Banana Republic and the M&S Grill. What first attracted me to the store was a set of Shag Art napkins that caught my eye as I was walking by. I wandered into the store and saw some super cute stuff. A few days later, we went to the store again, and that time, I saw it. Sitting right on the front counter in a lovely little glass box was my watch. It was calling to me, singing my name, begging me to buy into its insatiable cuteness…

But it was expensive. Really expensive. What is it exactly that makes the watch so cute, so unique, so unbelievably attractive? The watch head is rather wide, substantial in weight, but it’s the band that sold me on it – it’s silk chantung ribbon with frayed fringe around the edges. You see, normal watchbands really irritate me, which is why I typically go about my daily life never knowing what time it is – they make my wrist hot, they make it hard to type and drive, and I just generally hate them. But guess what? I certainly have no qualms about tying silk around my little wrist. :-D Honestly, it feels so luxurious and girly, I love it.

This past week, the thought of my watch has been keeping me company as I’ve been in and out of the hospital. Almost the entire time I was in the Emergency Room at Walter Reed on Thursday, I was fantasizing about it, wishing I had it.

Then tonight came and my day pretty much stunk. I’ve been feeling ill all day, Office Depot was being all rude to me, I didn’t really get much accomplished despite my best efforts, and I didn’t get much sleep. To top all of that off, I was really craving steak for dinner, but because of my gall bladder, I have to eat nothing but horribly bland and boring food. You wouldn’t believe how many scrambled eggs I’ve had this week! It’s sick! I was so frustrated, so tired of feeling miserable, and generally thought that my life was being all sucky.

Mike took me out to dinner, and sadly I was reduced to eating a really bland sandwich from Panera – ham and swiss on a bagel. Literally. Nothing but ham, swiss, and that dry bagel. I was so ticked with my body that I was about ready to cry while I watched Mike eat a pizza from Cosi’s.

After we finished eating, I went to the funky little store again – which, by the way, is called Zaidee Coco – so I could oogle my watch again and maybe spend five dollars on a funky magnet. But when I got there, the watch was too alluring. To make matters worse, I got paid $100 today for only about 15 minutes of work for AOL. I had cash to spare and a despondent heart that needed cheering.

So I bought it. Right then and there. But you know what? After dreaming about that watch for so long, I knew I wanted it so badly. I haven’t gotten a present for myself in a long time, so I decided to go for it. And I LOVE it! I’ve been beaming ALL night! Hehe. The only downside is, now that I’ve realized just how happy shopping can make me, I’m afraid I’m tempted to go on a shopping spree… thankfully the other items I want are only around $15, so that’s not so bad.

Anyway, here are the pictures of my watch: here’s the front, and here’s the back, where I have it tied in a bow. And check out my ring – that’s the first decent picture I’ve gotten of that baby! Can you tell that my left hand is just a little bit pampered? Hehe, I probably shouldn’t keep my ring on that hand, though; people will think I’m engaged. Which I’m not, just to keep the record straight.

So, hospitals suck, but shopping’s fun, so I guess my week’s evening out. :) Here’s the lady’s website that makes the watches, so you can buy one too if silk’s your thing. Her name is Marie Chavez - I'd highly recommend buying one, they make you feel all soft and girly and pretty. :) Eee, fun!
